Contemporary Fordism:

I work in M&co seaford. Which is a clothes shop and fits under the category of retail. As I’m so familiar about this shop I will use this as my contemporary Fordism.

At m&co we have certain things to say to customers in order to give great service. We need to ask if they have a loyalty card, if not if they’d like one and try and give out as many as we can. We also need to ask if they’d like a bag and that it’s costs 5p however, we donate it to cancer research, so that is a nice perk from our company. Sometimes we have special offers to try and promote our loyalty cards so more people apply for them. We frequently have discounts throughout the year to get more customers drawn into our stores and convince them to buy our products and clothes.

Everyday we need to try and get 2 loyalty cards (from each member of staff), £100 assisted sale and 2 orders. We also need to try and beat last years target (of how much money we get from the store) in order to have profits etc. However, we don’t get penalised if we don’t get these or reach our targets, as long as we are heard promoting, insisting and trying (that’s all that matters).

In the store we get given different tasks everyday in order to keep and maintain the shop in a nice, clean and professional manner. We need to daily tasks of hoovering the shop, as well as tiding clothes which have fallen on the floor or are not in their hanger properly, etc. Every once and a while we need to check the fitting rooms and put any clothes away which have been left. In some cases we get suspicions of stealing, we report this to the manger straight away so, that this problem can be followed up.
